Two Day Workshop on Research Trends and Methodology

Centre for Advanced Studies and Research in English Language and Literature, Department of English, Farook College (Autonomous), Kozhikode, organized a two-day workshop on "Research Trends and Methodology" on the 22nd and 23rd of June 2023. Dr. Aysha Swapna K. A., Principal, Farook College (Autonomous) inaugurated the workshop, and Dr. K. Rizwana Sultana, the Head of the Department of English, presided over the function. Dr. Mufeeda T, Assistant Professor of English and the Research Forum coordinator, welcomed the gathering, and Ms Shemin K., Research Scholar and Secretary, Research Forum, proposed the vote of thanks.

The opening day had interactive and practical sessions led by Dr. Arunlal K, Assistant Professor of English, Government College, Mokeri, and Dr. Rajesh James, Assistant Professor of English, Sacred Heart College, Tevara. In his talk on "Research Trends and Methodology in Cultural Studies," Dr. Arunlal K emphasised on why there must not be a ready-made theory to do research in cultural studies. He also discussed the emergence of English as a subject of study and the development of Cultural Studies as a separate discipline in various universities. Dr. Rajesh James conducted an interesting session on the topic "Research Trends and Methodology in Film Studies," highlighting the various possibilities of research beyond mere content analysis of a movie.

On the second day, sessions were led by Dr. Priya K Nair, Assistant Professor of English, St. Teresa's College, Eranakulam, and Dr. K. M Sheriff, Retd Professor of English, University of Calicut. While discussing contemporary theories in literary and cultural studies, Dr. Priya K Nair emphasised the need to break down disciplinary boundaries in research. In the final session, Dr. K. M. Sheriff addressed the topic "Translation and Linguistics/Language Teaching/Cultural Studies: Modes of Research," which focused on different areas of Translation Studies and the emergence of Adaptation Studies as a discipline. Teachers, scholars, and students from various educational institutions participated in the workshop.
