Farook College (Autonomous) is committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for all students. As a part of this commitment, the college strictly enforces the UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009 (Ref: F.1-16/2007(CPP-II); Dated 17th June, 2009), as well as other guidelines from University of Calicut and other relevant authorities. Any reported incident of ragging will be addressed promptly and strictly according to these regulations and applicable laws.

To uphold these standards, Farook College has established an Anti-Ragging cell  in line with UGC guidelines. The cell dedicated to preventing ragging on campus, monitoring compliance, and addressing reported instances in a timely and appropriate manner.

  1. Anti-Ragging Committee
    The Anti-Ragging Committee is responsible for establishing and enforcing policies that curb ragging on campus. This committee comprises faculty members, administrative staff, and student representatives who meet regularly to review anti-ragging strategies and handle reports of ragging incidents.

  2. Anti-Ragging Squad
    The Anti-Ragging Squad is an on-the-ground team tasked with monitoring vulnerable areas across campus, such as hostels, common rooms, and recreational spaces, to prevent incidents of ragging. The squad conducts surprise checks and maintains vigilance, ensuring a ragging-free environment.

Mandatory Undertaking

Each student and their parent/guardian must submit an online anti-ragging undertaking at the beginning of each academic year. This undertaking can be completed on the following website: www.antiragging.in.

What Constitutes Ragging?

Ragging includes a range of actions that can harm the mental or physical well-being of students, especially new entrants (freshers). Ragging is defined as one or more of the following acts:

  • Any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student.

  • Indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities by any student or students  which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher or any other student.

  • Asking any student to do any act which such student will not in the  ordinary course do and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, or torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of such fresher or any other student.

  • Any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts or disturbs the regular academic activity of any other student or a fresher.

  • Exploiting the services of a fresher or any other student for completing  the academic tasks assigned to an individual or a group of students.

  • Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burden put on a fresher or any other student by students

  • Any act of physical abuse including all variants of it: sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gestures, causing bodily harm or any other danger to health or person

  • Any act or abuse by spoken words, emails, post, public insults which would also include deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious or sadistic thrill from actively or passively participating in the discomfiture to fresher or any other student.

  • Any act that affects the mental health and self-confidence of a fresher or any other student with or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or showing off power, authority or superiority by a student over any fresher.

Punishment Provisions

The college will take strict disciplinary action against those found guilty of ragging, including but not limited to the following penalties:

  • Academic Sanctions: Debarment from tests, exams, or withholding of results.
  • Class and Campus Restrictions: Suspension from attending classes or participation in campus activities.
  • Loss of Privileges: Revocation of scholarships, other financial benefits, or event representation.
  • College Suspension: Suspension from the college for a specific period.
  • Admission Cancellation: Permanent cancellation of admission.
  • Hostel Suspension/Expulsion: Temporary or permanent removal from hostel facilities.
  • Institutional Expulsion: Rustication from the college for up to four semesters or total expulsion, along with barring from future admission to any institution.
  • Financial Penalty: Fine up to ₹25,000.
  • Legal Actions: Imprisonment up to two years or a fine up to ₹10,000 or both.
  • Collective Punishment: In cases where individuals responsible are not identified, the institution may impose collective punishment to ensure community accountability.
