The English Department at Farook College organized a RUSA Funded One-Day National Seminar titled "Matter and Memory: Exploring Intersections in Literary and Cultural Studies" on 12-12-2023. Eminent speakers and scholars graced the event, sparking insightful discussions and delivering engaging presentations.

Dr. K. Rizwana Sultana, Head of the English Department, presided over the seminar, while Dr. K. A. Aysha Swapna, Principal of Farook College, inaugurated the session with great fervor. Dr. Swapna emphasized the significance of interdisciplinary studies in exploring literature and culture, encouraging the participants to actively participate in meaningful dialogues throughout the event.

The keynote address, "Literature and Memory Studies: The Interdisciplinary Interactions," delivered by Dr. Avishek Parui, Associate Professor, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Madras, captivated the audience with his profoundly insightful talk, laying a strong foundation for the day's discussions. Dr. Rukhaya Mohammad Kunhi, Assistant Professor, PG Department of English at Nehru Arts and Science College, Kanhangad, offered a stimulating session on "Redefining Facticity: Algorithm as Memory," adding a distinctive perspective to the seminar by exploring the convergence of literature and technology. Dr. Umer Thasneem, Assistant Professor, Department of English, University of Calicut, engaged the participants in the afternoon session addressing the topic, "Never Mind, Whatever the Matter: Revisiting the Chicken and Egg Question in Modern Context." His extremely enriching talk addressed the  classical question of the dichotomy between materialiam and idealism.

The seminar also offered a vibrant platform for scholars, researchers, and students to present their research papers and engage in profound discussions, fostering a spirit of collaboration and intellectual exchange. The participants expressed their admiration for the diverse perspectives presented during the seminar.

Dr. Zeenath Mohamed Kunhi,  the coordinator of the seminar   welcomed the gathering, while Mr. Abdul Shafeek C.H., the co-coordinator, proposed the Vote of Thanks.
