Farook College Celebrates Muhammad Faris' Participation in FISU World Handball Championship

Farook College is elated to announce that T. Muhammad Faris, a dedicated student of our institution, has recently represented India at the prestigious FISU World University Handball Championship held in Antequera, Spain. Faris, who completed his BA in Multimedia from the Department of Multimedia at Farook College and is currently pursuing our Master's in Library and Information Science (MLibISc), showcased his exceptional talent and commitment on this international stage.

The Indian contingent, comprising both men’s and women’s teams, embarked on their journey to Spain on June 21, with the championship commencing on June 24. The selection process was meticulously conducted by Mahatma Gandhi University under the mandate of the Association of Indian Universities, involving rigorous trials with participation from approximately one hundred universities. After an intensive 20-day training programme at Nehru Stadium, Kottayam, 14 players were chosen for each team.

Muhammad Faris' inclusion in the men's team is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and remarkable skill in handball under the supervision of Dept. of Physical Education at Farook College. Throughout his time at Farook College, Faris has consistently demonstrated an unwavering passion for the sport, dedicating countless hours to training and honing his skills. His journey from the classrooms of Farook College to competing on an international platform serves as an inspiration to students and aspiring athletes alike.

The men’s team, featuring Muhammad Faris from Farook College, was led by captain Jasmeet Singh from Punjabi University, Patiala, and vice-captain Nirmal Cyriac from MG University. Other team members included Mandeep (Punjabi University, Patiala), P. Ramees (MG University), Nandhu Krishna (MG University), Bijoy George (MG University), M. Savidh (Calicut University), Jeevan Jose (Calicut University), Joji (Calicut University), R.K. Gokula Kanna (Bharathiar University, Coimbatore), Gurmeet (L.P. University, Punjab), P. Saravan Perumal (Periyar University), Harpeet Singh Randhava (RTM University, Nagpur), and Paramjeet (Kurukshetra University, Haryana). The team was coached by C.M. Antony and managed by Dr. N.R. Ramkumar, Sports Director at AMET University, Chennai.

Farook College takes immense pride in having supported Muhammad Faris on this significant journey. The college provided substantial financial assistance of Rs.75,000/- to cover the expenses associated with his participation in the championship. This financial support underscores the college's commitment to nurturing and promoting the talents of its students, enabling them to achieve their dreams and excel on global platforms.
