"Grass diversity of Kerala" workshop was organize by Dept. of Botany

A Grass identification workshop and a seminar on "Grass diversity of Kerala" was organized by Department of Botany, Farook College, in association with Sahyadri Club, under the DBT-STAR college scheme, on 29th November, 2023.
The chief guest of the seminar was Dr. Dileep P., a renowned environmentalist and grass expert from Kannur.
The grass identification workshop began at 10.00 am. Dr. Dileep gave the characterisitcs of grasses and certain clues to identify them. He identified about 100+ herbarium sheets of grasses that the final year degree students collected from the campus as part of their project works. The session ended at 12.00 pm for the lunch break.
Following the first session, the invited lecture on 'Grass diversity of Kerala' was held at 1.15 pm. Ms. Naseeha C.P., Assistant professor, Department of Botany has delivered the welcome address. The HoD, Dr. Kishore Kumar K., introduced the chief guest. Afterwards, Dr. Dileep P. delivered a lecture on the topic. The session was really interesting. A total of 63 students from 1st, 2nd and 3rd year BSc Botany classes, 3 Faculty members and 2 Lab Assistants of the department attended the programme.
The students were made familiarized with the grasses which they come across in their daily life. Following the lecture, the session was opened for discussion, when students asked some of their doubts. Later Ms. Hidaya K. (6th sem Botany) and Ms. Jariya V. (2nd sem Botany) gave their feedbacks about the lecture. The session came to an end at 3.00 pm with the vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Misna K. (4th sem Botany). Later the Grass identification workshop was continued upto 4.00 pm.
