Farook College Alumnus Padmashree Prof. T. Pradeep Receives Prestigious Eni Award

Farook College is delighted to celebrate the remarkable achievement of one of its distinguished alumni, Padmashree Prof. T. Pradeep, who has been honoured with the prestigious 'Eni Award' for his groundbreaking work in the field of clean water solutions. Edappal native Dr. Thalappil is the second Indian scientist, after Bharat Ratna recipient Dr. CNR Rao, to win the award, which carries a purse of around Rs 2 crore. The award winners in various categories were selected by a jury comprising Nobel laureates.

Padmashree Prof. T. Pradeep, an honoured Eni Award recipient, shares a handshake with Italian President Sergio Mattarella at the Eni Awards ceremony. The moment signifies global acclaim for Prof. Pradeep's pioneering work in clean water solutions, a testament to scientific excellence and international collaboration.


The Advanced Environmental Solutions Award, given for enhancing scientific and technological innovation for the protection and sustainable use of natural resources, was awarded to Thalappil Pradeep, from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (India), for his research on water purification technologies using advanced materials. Thalappil Pradeep discovered advanced, sustainable, and affordable nanoscale materials for the removal of toxic contaminants such as arsenic and uranium with low maintenance and no environmental impact. Currently, 1.3 million people in India benefit every day from drinking water at a cost of only 2.1 paise (US$0.00028) per liter. This technology, characterized by ease of maintenance and disposal, has been approved for nationwide rollout across India.

The Eni Award ceremony, held at Palazzo del Quirinale and attended by dignitaries including the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, recognized Prof. Pradeep alongside other esteemed scientists and researchers. Prof. Pradeep's work on affordable clean water and his dedication to addressing water-related challenges have not only earned him international acclaim but also positioned him as a pioneer in nanotechnology applications for clean water.

Padmashree Prof. T. Pradeep is the Chairman of the EFCS conference series initiated by the PG and Research Department of Chemistry,Farook College (Autonomous).
