Exploring Moonlite Mysteries: Farook College Unveils Nocturnal Faunal Diversity

The P.G. & Research Department of Zoology at Farook College (Autonomous) conducted a captivating biodiversity survey on October 25, 2023, with the aim of documenting the diverse nocturnal fauna inhabiting the college campus. The event, aptly titled "Moonlite Myesteries," provided a unique opportunity to explore and appreciate the hidden world of creatures that come to life under the cover of darkness.

The programme featured three esteemed resource persons who introduced their respective fields of expertise in a captivating manner, setting the stage for a night of discovery.
Our former student, Dr. Sandeep Das, delivered an insightful talk titled "Naturally Nature: A Deep Dive into Amphibian Diversity." His presentation shed light on the fascinating world of amphibians and their diverse ecology, offering a profound exploration of the subject.

Dr. Kishore Kumar, HoD of the Botany Department, delivered a captivating talk on "Birds and Songs." His presentation not only shed light on the intriguing world of nocturnal avian species but also touched upon the melodies they produce during the night. Participants found the talk to be both informative and engaging, offering a deeper appreciation for the avian biodiversity of the campus.

Dr. Safwan, a researcher from the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) Calicut, took the audience on an immersive journey with his talk titled "Let's Enter into the World of Moths." His presentation provided insights into the captivating world of moths and their significance in the ecosystem. Dr. Safwan's expertise and passion for the subject left a lasting impression on the attendees.

Following the informative talks, the participating students were divided into five groups, each led by an expert in the field. These groups embarked on a night-long survey of the campus, equipped with the knowledge gained from the talks and guidance from their respective experts. The night survey allowed participants to witness the nocturnal fauna in its natural habitat, uncovering a world of creatures that often go unnoticed during daylight hours. The experience was not only educational but also offered a unique opportunity for hands-on learning and interaction with the college's local biodiversity.
