Biography

Dr. Kishore Kumar is a Plant Taxonomist and Ecologist currently working as an Assistant Professor & HoD of Botany at Farook College, Kozhikode. He was a former research scholar of the Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI), Peechi, Thrissur, who has done research on the topic ‘Taxonomic and Ecological studies on the Shola Forests of Kerala’. He has about 29 years of Research Experience in Forestry and about 23 years of Teaching experience. He has travelled extensively in forests of Kerala especially in the High altitude Shola forest regions and also have conducted studies in various Wildlife Sanctuaries such as Peechi-Vazhani, Chinnar, Wayanad, Malabar WLSs and National Parks such as Silent Valley, Eravikulam, Anamudi Shola and Pambadum Sholas. He has 99 research publications in various National/ International journals, books and periodicals. His research interests are in Plant Morphology & Taxonomy, Ecology, Ethnobotany, Biodiversity conservation, Plant succession, Medicinal and Poisonous plants.

He is a recognized Research Guide of the University of Calicut and has also guided 34 student research projects in the PG, UG, HSS and HS levels. He has served as a resource person in about 16 workshops/ faculty development programmes and has conducted more than 300 nature education lectures in various insitutions inside and outside the state. He has delivered about 6 talks in the All India Radio (AIR), Kozhikode/Kannur and has also served as a Wildlife Quiz master of the Kerala Forest Department for about 14 years. Currently he is a member of the Kozhikode District level ‘Technical Support Group’ (TSG) of the Kerala State Biodiversity Board, a member of the ‘Biodiversity Management Committee’ (BMC) of the Kozhikode Municipal Corporation and a member of the Educational Committee of the Beypore Mandalam Development Mission. He also extends his service as the ‘Nature Education Officer’ of Malabar Natural History Society (MNHS), Kozhikode and the Editorial Committee Member of the ‘Sasthra Keralam’ Science magazine of Kerala Sashtra Sahitya Parishath.
