Biography
Dr. Shalina Begum holds a Master’s and Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Calicut, Kerala, with a doctoral research on “The synthesis of biologically active heterocyclic compounds”. She has also completed a Master’s in Education, with a particular interest in science teaching methodologies, and has worked as a state resource person for Higher Secondary School Teacher Training programs. She is the general coordinator of DBT Star Scheme. She also serves as the hostel provost of Farook College (Autonomous).
She is the coordinator of Water Analytical Lab and Water Quality Assessment Course. In 2019, she submitted a detailed report on physio-chemical and biological parameters of selected water samples from Ramanattukara municipality. In 2020,a report on physio-chemical and biological parameters of selected water samples from Feroke municipality to the chairperson of Feroke Municipality. During 2022-2023, a report on Physio-chemical and biological parameters of selected water samples from Vazhayur panchayat.
During 2023-2024, a report on Assessment of river water quality: A comparative analysis of Kallayi, Chaliyar and Kadalundi river along Malabar to be submitted to the district collector, Calicut.
Her scholarly contributions include publications in both national and international peer-reviewed journals, as well as more than 25 invited lectures. She has also organized numerous national and international seminars and conferences. She is interested in synthesizing biologically active compounds and materials with photocatalytic applications. She has completed several research projects under financial assistance of RUSA, UGC-CPE, Seed Money Sheme etc.
Farook College (Autonomous) hosted Professor Narayanan Kuthirummel, a Senior Fulbright Scholar from the College of Charleston collaborated with of Dr. Shalina Begum, from September 26, 2022, to January 26, 2023.
She serves as the convener for the Green Campus Initiative and the Science Innovation Hub. She is a member of the Board of Studies in Chemistry at PSMO College (Autonomous) And also the member of Board of Studies in Chemistry at Farook College (Autonomous) for the past five years.
She is also a governing body member of the Chair for Islamic Studies and Research at the University of Calicut. Additionally, she was a member of the Board of Studies in Chemical Engineering at Calicut University for three years. She acted as the founding Coordinator of the EFCS, a prestigious international conference series organized by the Department of Chemistry at Farook College (Autonomous).
