Prof. Syed Mohideen Shah Endowment Lecture on 8 December 2023

This Endowment Lecture is an initiative of Dr. Syed Yusuf Shah, son of Prof. Syed Mohideen Shah Sahib, the esteemed first Principal of Farook College. Prof. Syed Mohideen Shah Sahib’s demise on April 6th, 1988, marked the end of an illustrious era. Having withdrawn from his distinguished service in the Madras Government, Prof. Mohideen graciously lent his expertise to lay the foundational work of Farook College. His tenure as the college’s Principal, from its inception in 1948 to 1955, is a testament to his exceptional leadership and visionary guidance. Prof. Shah’s remarkable prowess played an instrumental role in transforming the college, which faced significant challenges arising from economic constraints, into a thriving centre of academic excellence. Under his remarkable leadership, the college expanded its academic horizons, introducing science subjects for intermediate programme and initiating the B.Sc. and B.Com. programmes, marking pivotal milestones in the institution’s history. Consequent to his tenure at Farook College, Prof. Syed Mohideen Shah Sahib redirected his boundless dedication to serve in government sectors. His indelible legacy extends beyond Farook College, as he assumed the esteemed mantle of founding principal at Madapally College and Kayamkulam College. His scholarly pursuits led him to serve as the chief editor of the journal ‘Islamika Darshanam.’ His scholarly contribution also includes the volume titled 'Islam in Kerala.' Prof. Shah’s legacy reverberates through his transformative contributions to multiple educational institutions, embodying a lifelong commitment to nurturing minds and fostering enlightenment in the field of education.
