Farook College Library (Abussabah Library), situated in 27,000 Sq. Ft. is one of the largest college libraries in the state of Kerala and houses 92590 books in print and more than 170 print periodicals. The college library is meant for supplementing the academic, intellectual, informational and cultural requirements of the academia with its rich resources and services. About 300 students can use the library at a time. The foundation stone of the existing library building was laid by Sri. PM Sayeed, the then Hon. Deputy speaker of Loksabha on 19.02.2000 and inaugurated by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the then President of India. In October 2023, while UNESCO designated Kozhikode as a "City of Literature" within its Creative Cities Network (UCCN), highlighted the Abussabah Library, stating: "The Abussabah Library is renowned for its Braille section, which contains around 150 books, primarily focused on literature, for visually impaired readers". A separate section for visually challenged students with Braille literature and Digital Talking Book Library has been set up. A well organised Digital Library under MPLAD work of Sri P.V. Abdul Wahab M.P. has also been set up inside the library. Access to e-resources has been provided by the Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) Centre of UGC, Ahmedabad and DELNET. A state of the art, fully air conditioned Audio-Visual Theatre is also attached to the Library.
Vision
The Abussabah Library’s vision is to cater to the informational, academic and research needs of the Farook College fraternity, primarily and the society in general, thus, enabling the Farook College to achieve excellence in teaching, learning and research.
Mission
The Mission of Abussabah Library is to provide user-oriented library services to enhance the teaching, learning and research activities of the Farook College by providing them with high quality academic and research resources.
Objectives
To achieve the vision and mission of the library, the Abussabah Library has the following objectives:
- Select, acquire and organise high quality, relevant and up to date information resources according to need and requirement of the College fraternity;
- Offer high-quality library services to the users;
- Develop, maintain and promote a wide range of library services to optimize the use of library resources;
- Organise frequently user orientation and staff training programmes for optimum utilization of the resources of the library; and
- Adopt the latest tools and technologies to provide library services to the users more effectively and efficiently.
