The department was established in 2013 as an undergraduate department offering B.A in Multimedia.</p> <p>The department is committed to promoting high-quality and relevant teaching. The purpose of higher education is to provide skills for the sustainable development of an individual through academic excellence. The Multimedia programme envisions upskilling the students towards creative and rational excellence. </p> <p>Three faculty members make up the department, and our faculty's breadth of multimedia expertise makes it strong. All faculty members in the department are reputed authors, and all are active in teaching, research and consultancy services. Members of the faculty also serve on the boards of studies for other colleges and the University of Calicut. They also serve as resource people for a variety of courses, conferences, and seminars. They participate in professional organisations' executive committees as members as well.</p> <p>Teaching & learning at the department follows a creative approach with a focus on both concepts and applications. At the undergraduate level, the fundamentals of media production including photography, video and audio recording and editing, Journalism, media management, script writing, animation, graphic design, fiction and Non-Fiction are dealt with during the 6 semesters of the course. The programme ensures student engagement through assignments, presentations, discussions, and project works.</p> <p>The Department of Multimedia is the hub of a number of academic and co-curricular activities. National-level experts are invited to the talks and seminars. The department has organised numerous prestigious academic conferences, seminars, FDPs and workshops. The ‘LIKHA’, the annual multimedia fest is a prestigious student event organised by the department students.  </p>

1 .Introduction

The Multimedia department is a flourishing hub of creativity and academic excellence, dedicated to exploring multi-dimensional experiences through interactive digital assets. The department ensures the quality of media education by implementing activities to gain expertise in dynamic and interactive ways to present information, entertain, educate, and express creativity efficiently. 

2 .Audio Production Centre

The students are exposed to the real world creative gateway and industry best practices inside the campus in a built-in, well-equipped, full-fledged Audio Production Center (APC) with industry-standard big recording with a unique identity. APC is a specialized facility for sound recording, mixing and audio production of instrumental or vocal musical performances, academic and non-academic spoken words and other creative sounds.

The latest technologies ensure that APC has highly flexible latest condenser Microphones, cool iMac processing units with pioneer in establishing DAW setup in educational institutes, fully furnished console Room with industry-oriented latest Editing Software, Sound-proofed art-of-the-state Recording Booth. The APC is equipped with Neumann TLM Condenser Mic, and Steinberg Multi-channel  Sound interface controlled by the Sound Engineer with Pro Tools software in the iMac system. The Live mixing was facilitated with a pair of Kali studio monitors controlled by the Nero Monitor controller. The 'console room’ and the isolated ‘booth’ are interconnected with a talkback facility.

3 .Photography Studio

A photographic studio is a workspace to take, develop, print and duplicate photographs. Photographic training and the display of finished photographs are key functions of a photographic studio. The studio also consists of a Green Room and storage space for other photography related works. The Photography studio is equipped with Nikkon Still camera with lenses, Nikkon Speed Lights and Elinchrom Flash Kit with Transmitter.

4 .Videography studio

The video studio has a highly flexible latest digital 4K camera with holding equipment like Tripods, Sliders and Gimbals, along with adequate lighting units and light controllers. 

5 .Multimedia Lab

The Multimedia Lab engages in training the students in 2D Graphics, 3D Animation, Web Designing, VFX motion Graphics. The Multimedia Lab having high-end workstations with network connections and an uninterrupted power supply. The systems are ready for graphic designing, post-production of audio and video programs, designing of websites, 2D and 3D Animation and creation of VFX and motion graphics.

6 .STeP - Capacity Building Programme

The Capacity Building Program is a cornerstone of the Multimedia Department, aiming to equip students, faculty, and professionals with the necessary skills to thrive in the dynamic field of multimedia. This program offers a comprehensive curriculum covering various aspects of multimedia production, including 2D/3D graphics and Web, Digital Media Production, Reporting and Writing for Media, and Digital Film Making. 

The highlights of the Capacity Building Program include:

  • Workshops and Training Sessions: Regular workshops and training sessions are conducted by industry experts to provide hands-on experience and insights into the latest multimedia tools, techniques, and trends.
  • Collaborative Projects: Students are encouraged to engage in collaborative projects, working in teams to develop multimedia content for real-world scenarios. This fosters teamwork, problem-solving skills, and creative thinking.
  • Guest Lectures: Esteemed professionals from the multimedia industry are invited to deliver guest lectures, sharing their experiences, success stories, and industry best practices. This exposure enhances the student's understanding of the industry and opens doors for potential networking opportunities.
  • Internship and Job Placement Support: The Capacity Building Program also focuses on facilitating internships and job placements for students, connecting them with industry partners and providing career guidance.

7 .Festival De Likha

The Multimedia Department's annual Art Exhibition- Festival De Likha serves as a platform for students and other stakeholders to showcase their artistic talents and express themselves through various mediums. This highly anticipated event not only celebrates creativity but also encourages dialogue and appreciation of digital and visual communication. 

The highlights of the Festival De Likha include:

  • The exhibition showcases a diverse range of digital art, photography, installations, and interactive multimedia experiences. This eclectic mix of mediums creates a captivating and immersive environment for visitors.
  • Student Showcases: This provides a dedicated space for students to display their artwork, giving them a chance to gain recognition, build their portfolios, and receive valuable feedback from peers, faculty, and visitors.
  • Community Engagement: Festival De Likha is open to the public, attracting art enthusiasts, local residents, and professionals from various industries. This engagement fosters a sense of community and promotes the importance of art in society.
  • Artist Talks and Panel Discussions: Accompanying the exhibition, artist talks and panel discussions are organized, allowing artists to share their inspiration, artistic process, and insights into their work. These sessions provide a deeper understanding of the artworks and facilitate meaningful conversations.

The students from the department the students have already made inroads by participating in various intercollegiate events, highlighting their excellence amongst the media graduates fraternity.

 

     A group of students from the Multimedia department participated in Splendore 2k17 Media Fest held on 20th September 2017 at Rajagiri College of Social Sciences (Autonomous), Kalamassery, Kochi and bagged the overall championship

     Department of Multimedia participated in Supra Food Fest conducted by the Students Union and bagged the first prize in the competition.

      Department of Multimedia participated in Manuscript Magazine Competition conducted by Students Union and bagged the first prize.
