Shilujas M. is a faculty of Sociology at Farook College (Autonomous), Kozhikode. Her academic interest in sociology is informed by her training in Sociology at Farook College under graduation. The initial research focused on the ‘Dressing-Up the Body: Beyond Covering the Body with Purdah' the MPhil thesis, with the guidance of Prof. Rajan Gurukkal & Dr. S Raju, were the faculties of the School of Social Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. Self- Identification, Codified Dressing and Presentation of oneself were the central themes in this analysis among Muslim women. Her current academic interests interlace perspectives from the studies on the Life of the Sufis in Kerala and the syncretic trends, as part of her Ph.D. thesis, which is submitted to Kerala University under the guidance of Dr. Saji P Jacob, Associate Professor and Principal of Loyola College of Social Sciences, University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram.

Her professional journey in teaching started at Farook College in 2010 as a guest faculty, then moved to Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA), Thrissur, as Assistant Professor and subsequently joined the Department of Sociology, at Farook College in the year 2017. She received ‘PKB Nayar Young Sociologist Award’ for the best paper in the year 2010 from the Kerala Sociological Society. She has published in Simon & Schuster publications ( The Edited Work The Hijab- Islam, Women and the Politics of Clothing), ‘Kerala Sociologist’ Journal of the Kerala Sociological Society, KILA Publications, Academic Publications of the University of Kerala, Journal of the All Kerala Private College Teachers’ Association, etc. Apart from presenting at various conferences, she has organised quite a few. She was the Vice President of the Kerala Sociological Society and Co-coordinating secretary of the 47th International Sociological Conference in 2021.
