Department Profile

<p>The Department of Economics is one of the oldest and main constituent departments of the Farook College. The department was established in 1948 as undergraduate department, turned postgraduate in 1984, and became research department in 2020. The Department offers B.A, M.A. and PhD in Economics. It attracts the largest number of students at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. Since its inception, the department has been committed towards promoting high quality and relevant teaching. During last 73 years, the Department has carved out a niche in the Economics and many of its alumni have distinguished themselves in both academic and administrative spheres in national and international level. Teaching & learning at the department follow a balanced approach with a focus on both theoretical as well as applied economics. Faculty members are active in teaching, research and consultancy services. They have published in Scopus and Web of Science indexed journals of international publishers such as Elsevier, Sage, Wiley etc.. The research papers of faculty members have appeared in Economic and Political Weekly (EPW), Resource Policy (Elsevier), Singapore Economic Review (Wiley), Disasters (Wiley), Global Business Review (Sage), Indian Journal of Agricultural Economics, Journal of Public Affairs (Wiley) etc… The Department of Economics is the hub of a number of academic and co-curricular activities. Eminent scholars have been invited to for talks and seminars. The department has organised numerous prestigious academic conferences and workshops.</p>

1 .B.A. Economics

Undergraduate programme focuses on basic economic theory and mathematical skills enabling the students to go in for work and independent enquiry.

3 .Ph.D

Admission to Ph.D programme is done as per the guidelines of the University of Calicut. Ph.D.Pprogramme shall be for a minimum duration of three years, including course work and a maximum of six years.

Facilities

1 .Smart Class Rooms

M.A classes are smart class rooms, which facilitate IT enabled teaching by faculty members and seminar presentations by the students. Further, proper trainings are given in softwares using the facility.

2 .Department Library

Apart from the central library, there is a department library which consists of print and digital copy of books. The library also has a collection reports and data sets such as Economic Review of Kerala Planning Board, census, NFHS, NSSO reports, and Hand Book on Indian Economy of Reserve Bank of India.

3 .Research Room

There is a research room for research scholars with with Journals and reports and digital facilities.
