The department was established in 1981. It offers undergraduate programme in Sociology with History and Psychology as subsidiaries. The department has a consistent record of academic excellence by achieving very good results in the university examinations and it was adjudged to receive 'Father Puthenkalam ever rolling trophy' for a number of years for its overall performance on and off campus, and M.M. Ghani Award for the best teacher.
